Dr. James Manyika is a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company and Director of the McKinsey Global Institute. James is also a member of McKinsey’s Shareholder Council (Board of Directors). Based in Silicon Valley for 20 years he has advised many of the world’s leading technology companies and their chief executives. He was appointed by President Obama as Vice Chair of the Global Development Council at the White House (2012-present). Appointments by U.S. Commerce Secretaries include the Digital Economy Board of Advisors (2016) and the National Innovation Advisory Board (2011). He is on the boards of the Council on Foreign Relations, Aspen Institute, Oxford Internet Institute, MIT’s Initiative on the Digital Economy, UC Berkeley’s School of Information, Harvard’s Hutchins Center, including the Du Bois Institute for African and African-American Research, and the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the American University in Cairo. He is also a non-resident Senior Fellow of Brookings Institution and a member of the Bretton Woods Committee. A Rhodes Scholar and graduate of Oxford University, he was also on the engineering faculty, a member of the AI and Robotics Research Lab and a Fellow of Balliol College, a visiting scientist at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and a faculty exchange fellow at MIT.
