About the Lectureship Series

The Sorensen Distinguished Lecture on the United Nations is an annual lecture and dinner established in 1996 with funds from former CFR Director Theodore C. Sorensen, who was a member for over 40 years. The lecture series honors his wife, Gillian Martin Sorensen, for her work at the United Nations. Wars and Conflict

Conflicts, crises in fragile states, and violent extremism are on the rise and a record number of people were forced from their homes last year. Short-term security interventions and humanitarian responses often only provide temporary relief.
